The Library of Congress will open its August Thursday-evening programming with K-pop activities, a trivia event and an outdoor screening of the 1995 film “Apollo 13,” according to the institution's event schedule.
Two K-pop programs are planned for Aug. 6. From 5 to 8 p.m., visitors can hear a curated playlist, decorate a custom light stick and view materials from the Asian Division, Music Division and American Folklife Center.
A separate K-pop trivia program begins at 6 p.m. in room LJ-119. The Library said participants will be able to form teams, examine a special collections display and speak with staff members familiar with its Korean cultural holdings.
At 8 p.m., the Summer Movies on the Lawn series is scheduled to show “Apollo 13” on the North Lawn. The Library said no ticket is required for the outdoor screening, while the indoor evening programs use free registration.
The month's music schedule continues Aug. 13 with Amanda Pascali in the Coolidge Auditorium. The American Folklife Center artist is expected to perform music drawing on folk, Americana, Mediterranean, Balkan and Latin influences as part of the center's 50th anniversary.
On Aug. 27, banjo player Tray Wellington and his band are scheduled for a 6 p.m. Café Concert in the Great Hall, combining bluegrass, jazz, folk and contemporary roots music.
Live! at the Library also extends access to the Thomas Jefferson Building and exhibitions from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. Visitors may enter the Main Reading Room and view “The Declaration's Promise” exhibition during the evening hours.
The exhibition includes historical materials such as Thomas Jefferson's rough draft of the Declaration of Independence and Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, alongside cultural objects and multimedia displays.
