Apple TV has announced a new series titled Ascension, with Caitriona Balfe set to star and executive produce, according to an August 10 Apple TV Press notice.
The announcement says the project reunites Apple with filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron. It also identifies Natalie Erika James and Christian White as the creators attached to the series.
Those credits establish the initial creative package: a lead performer with an executive-producer role, two named creators and a renewed collaboration between Apple and Cuaron.
Apple is the source for the production announcement. The notice confirms the participants the company named, but it does not by itself establish when filming will begin, how many episodes Apple has ordered or when the series will premiere.
The next useful disclosures will be a fuller cast, production location, episode count and release window. Until then, the confirmed news is the formation of the project rather than a completed or dated series.
